An introduction

Hi!
My name is Lara, and I’ll be writing this little blog.
I’m going to discuss the different meals I had in Berlin, I’ll be talking about where I ate them, how much the cost was, the deliciousness, the staff and the cleanliness. I will give the different foods and places a rating, but keep in mind that they’re all based on personal experience and preference.
With that in mind, enjoy a few general pictures of Berlin (to establish the right mind setting) and me (to get a picture of who I am).

Auf Wiedersehen,
Lara.

The last day

Hi!
The last day isn’t really eventfull. This is the day that we left Berlin to go back to Belgium. The morning started with a bad breakfast, for the last time. We left with the bus at 10am, so there isn’t many to say. I stayed awake again, I had snacks left.

I want to take this moment to thank you for reading my posts. Berlin was amazing. It was so much fun, to bad it was so short. Anyway, thank you to the teachers for taking us!

Auf Wiedersehen,
Lara.

Day number 3

Hi!
The third day starts with a dissapointing breakfast again. I made the brave choice to try the canned food… nope, not worth it at all. The breakfast is still a 3/10. I’m just happy to have warm breadrolls and coffee.

For lunch, we chose to go to the Alexa mall foodcourt. I like the Alexa foodcourt more than the Berlin Mall. It’s smaller, and less choices. But it’s prettier and has a cozy atmosphere. The Berlin Mall foodcourt has a more ‘cafeteria’ feeling to it. My lunch was an amazing Pokébowl from the Poke Container restaurant. I love pokébowls, and this one was just as delicious as others I’ve had. The girl working was also really nice to me, she helped me find an atm when my card wouldn’t work because it wasn’t a german card. The price was decent too. I definitely recommend this one. 10/10 couldn’t be better.

After our graffiti tour and workshop, we settled in a Japanese Grill named Kyo on the Kastanienallee. The restaurant itself is a bit on the tiny side, there are only tables for 2-4 people inside, so we chose a table outside. My choice of dinner was the Kyo Ramen, together with a drink called Chari-tea. The drink was interesting, I definitely liked it and the bottle had a pretty cool design. The ramen were really good, I recommend them if you like soup and Japanese. 9/10 for sure. Halfway through our dinner, the gods of the sky decided to gift us with a cloudbreak. Rain poured down and since we were outside, the only thing we could do was sit and keep eating in the rain. It brought us some fond memories and good laughs.

Our night ended in the ZAZA bar. It’s such a nice bar. It looks really chique and expensive, but the cocktails were all around the 7 euros so that’s amazing! I got the Sour Apple Martini, which tastes a bit like sour apple candy. You don’t notice the alcohol so be carefull while drinking that. 10/10 loved it.

The second day

Hi!
My second day in Berlin started with breakfast in the hostel. The Generator hostel has a terrible breakfast, believe me. They have some baked breadrolls, fruit from a can, yoghurt and some weird chemical thing they pretend are scrambled eggs. But the worst thing is, they had NO spoons. So my breakfast was 2 breadrolls and a coffee. At least the coffee was decent and the breadrolls were warm.
After that disaster breakfast, we visited the Bahnhof museum. We settled for lunch close to the Jewish museum. If you’ve been to Berlin before and you know the underground station close to the Jewish museum, then you know there isn’t much to eat around. We decided to keep our spendings to a minimum, and got some food from a little grocery store. It was a beautiful sunny day, so we ate our little lunch in a park close by. My lunch consisted of a pack of mini doughnuts, and a fuze tea. Not spectacular or anything, it was delicious. I’d give it a 9/10 because that store was insane cheap and it still tasted great.

Our day went on, we visited the Jewish museum and Tempelhof Airport. Our teachers decided to let us pick a restaurant for dinner in the area of Oranienburger str. We were drawn to a little Turkish restaurant that looked promising. I ordered a oven grilled dish (which I forgot the name of, but hey, I did get a picture this time) with chicken and it came with some spicy rice and fluffy bread. I loved it, the chicken with the vegetables were delicious. The rice was a little spicy, but bearable for me. A 8/10 for sure. The staff in the restaurant was pushy and not very friendly, so that’s a bummer. The thing that actually killed the vibe, was the fact that there were multiple ants (!!) running around on the table.

To end our evening, we found an adorable little bar, called Okya. We enjoyed the cozy atmosphere with a Strawberry vodka, which I really recommend! I give the bar and the drink a 10/10 because it wasn’t expensive, it was very cozy, friendly staff. Keep in mind that this was a lesbian bar, we didn’t notice until after we’d ordered, but for me personally, not a problem.

Auf Wiedersehen,
Lara.

The very first day

Hi!
My first day started in the bus, on our way to Berlin. It was am when we left and I couldn’t sleep at all, so I was awake for quite some time. To keep myself busy, I had a book and a lot of snacks. Trust me, when I say a lot, I mean it. I brought around 11 cereal bars, 2 bags of candy, 10 pick up cookies, Easter chocolates, a maxi pouch of maltesers, chocolate milk, and chocolate bars. So that was my breakfast, together with some egg sandwiches I packed.

When we were finally in Berlin (after an exhausting 11 hour drive), we visited a piece of the Berlin wall, and we went for a quick lunch. Now please forgive me, I was still a bit dazed from the long drive, but I forgot to take a picture. Don’t be mad at me! My lunch was a simple triple chocolate Starbucks muffin, the same one I had in Brighton a year ago, so I’ll put that picture in (they look the same anyways). The muffin was delicious, chocolatey and rich. It’s starbucks, so you already know it was a little overpriced. Overall a 8/10.

After lunch and visiting some more beautiful Berlin monuments, we settled in The Berlin Mall for a dinner at the food court. I had Nom Mien from the little restaurant Thanh Koch, which is Vietnamese. Now, I haven’t been a very good blogger the first day, because again, I forgot to take a picture. I can only blame so much on the tiredness from the drive there. This time I take the full blame, I was excited to eat some Vietnamese again and didn’t stop to think and take a picture. I’ll give you a picture I found of how it’s supposed to look instead. The Nom Mien was delicious, the taste was perfect, the noodles amazing, overall very awesome. Thanh Koch is a neat little restaurant. There was a little confusion between me and the lady working because of the language barrier, but pretty positive. The food court in the Mall of Berlin is pretty big, a little overwhelming even, but I love the idea of everyone being able to go get whatever their heart desires but sit at the same table. A 9/10 for me.
I finished the day in the hostel bar with a drink (Generator hostel, not a recommendation, but read my next posts for little rants) . The bar is pretty nice, but the music is a little loud. It’s not a nightclub, it’s a bar, you should be able to talk to each other without yelling. I’d give it a 7.5/10.

Auf Wiedersehen,
Lara.
